FAQs

  • Momentum serves a variety of early- and mid-career clients, all working to establish their financial foundation and build confidence to manage their own finances and investments.

    • New grads preparing to start their first jobs and starting their financial life journeys

    • Early career women ready to overcome their intimidation of investing and finance

    • Young professionals looking to understand the next financial moves to build financial stability

    • Gen Z and Millennial couples working to merge (or not merge) their finances together

    • Anyone looking for a personal finance foundation that goes beyond money mindsets and budgeting.

  • Momentum provides comprehensive financial guidance to those building their financial foundations.

Topics covered include: cash flow prioritization and goals review, student loan strategy, debt paydown planning, investing (while I don’t personally manage your investments, I absolutely advise on and walk through your investments with you), planning for financial independence, life events planning, insurance review, estate planning. These topics are covered in an order and depth that makes sense for you and your life (there is no starting point or question that is too dumb!), so that you feel confident in your holistic personal financial plan going forward.

Momentum focuses on working one-on-one with clients on both an ongoing basis (length of time is flexible) and on a project basis, as well as offering comprehensive personal finance courses. Momentum also offers the Money & Marriage program to couples just merging their finances together (or deciding not to merge after all!) and financial education seminars to groups.

  • Momentum charges a flat annual fee billed monthly for 1:1 ongoing client work. This fee is currently $300 for individuals and $450 for couples. Projects are billed on a per-project basis, half up front and half upon completion of work together. Momentum is advice-only (meaning that Momentum does not do the actual management of your investments, but still advises on them) and charges flat fees only, meaning that Momentum is only compensated through client fees, not through commissions or AUM. (See why Sarah doesn’t like or use the AUM model for Momentum’s clients.)

  • Momentum charges only flat fees to our clients. We do not make money from any client commissions or AUM; Momentum does offer other personal finance courses and group educational seminars.

“Fiduciary at all times” commitment - You deserve and shall receive honest, accurate guidance from Momentum that is in your absolute best interest.

Prompt followup to all questions and tasks - Momentum strives to provide timely service by responding to all client emails within 48 hours and being available to consult on urgent life decisions as they arise.

“There are no stupid questions!” Momentum strives to educate and inform to help set you up for financial success, and does not necessarily assume that you know anything about personal finance. It’s not something that most of us, including Sarah herself, were taught in school! Momentum encourages you to take this opportunity to learn as much about personal finance as you can so that you are confident in your finances moving forward.

We strategize together with you, and help you all the way through execution. Momentum does not just leave you hanging with any kind of 50-page financial plan. We often execute in meetings themselves by screensharing and walking through a task click-by-click (e.g. starting a 401(k) rollover or updating a contribution) as it makes sense for you. That way you can check something off your long to-do list right away!

  • By signing an agreement to work with Momentum as a client, you are making a commitment to learn and improve your own personal finances. As such, we expect you to take that commitment seriously and follow through from there by actively engaging in the personal financial planning process.

    • Attend and participate in scheduled meetings. If you’re unable to attend a meeting, please let us know in advance and we will reschedule.

    • Be (at least somewhat) technologically savvy. Most meetings are held on Zoom, so familiarity with Zoom is very helpful. In addition, we often screenshare during meetings and being able to log in to your various accounts as necessary. Please know your login information ahead of time so we don’t spend our whole meeting fighting technology :)

    • Complete tasks and followups in between meetings (and/or ask for help anytime as you need) as appropriate. Working together is a journey (it can be a fun one!) and it will take work and effort from you.

    • Submit all financial information requested in a timely manner and keep all account links updated. At Momentum we want to give you the best advice possible, and in order to do that, we simply must have accurate up-to-date information about your personal financial situation.

    • Please consult us on financial decisions related to your life. We are here to help you achieve your dreams! And it’s easier to help before something happens than afterwards :)

If something about our engagement together isn’t working out, that’s ok! Just let us know, and we’ll either attempt to fix the issue or complete our engagement together. That’s so much more efficient than never hearing from you again! (And we won’t take it personally, we promise.)
